Remembering Jason Molina
Deep and brooding, haunting and mysterious… Jason Molina was a storyteller. His voice and music draw you in, feeling his pain, and maybe processing your own. He suffers no more. Jason Molina passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the age of 39.
I interviewed Jason, back in 2009. I had recently returned from my trip around the world, and we talked off-camera about travelling… and moving through this world alone. I turned on Schuba’s camera (a bit low quality, unfortunately) and Jason spoke at length about his creative process and inspirations, songwriting and touring… he was excited to be “home” in Chicago and releasing the fine album Josephine (under the name ‘Magnolia Electric Co.’).
Our conversation was split into two videos, linked below. Read his label’s biography. Sample/purchase his music here.
“If, at the end of the night, you have a smile on your face… you win.”
