ANA TIJOUX

Born in France to Chilean parents during the 70’s exile, Ana Tijoux is a cross-cultural artist who raps and resonates with Spanish, French and beyond.  She returned to her roots in post-Pinochet Santiago, emerging from its burgeoning hip-hop scene with the late 90’s group Makiza, and gaining further attention with her 2007 solo debut Kaos.  Though her career as a vocalist is focused on rap – she first found pop success through collaboration with Latin Songstress Julieta Venegas.  Tijoux’s second solo record earned a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Rock/Alternative album — check out her NPR Tiny Desk concert, or you may notice yourself head-bobbing to the title track 1977 on the FIFA 11 game.

It is hard to define her style… the last description I heard was “De La Soul meets Manu Chao”.
