Fela! The Inspiration… as told by a Queen.

You’ve heard all about Fela! The Musical.  It’s an amazing broadway show that brings the godfather of Afrobeat and his music to life, inspiring audiences to rise up against intolerance and injustice.

An unexpected dimension to this story, quite artistically presented, is the way in which it portrays this POWERFUL ICON… so strongly influenced by the women in his life.

Yes, Fela was controversial for the provocative lifestyle he lead.  But this show – and this interview with an actress/dancer/singer who plays one of his wives in the musical – highlights the significance of these female figures, including Fela’s mother, Funmilayo, and his most unique muse ~ Sandra.

Nicole Chantal De Weever, who’s interview you can watch below, has been with Fela! since the pre-broadway workshop days.  Helping to shape the story and embody the vision of the production, she is one of the “Warriors of the Word”, entertaining show-goers while delivering a message of hope, inspiration and change.
